Phillip "Phil" Olzewski, 89, of Elk Grove Village, died suddenly on October 2, 2021 at Alexian Brothers Medical Center. Better known as "Papa" to those who knew him best, Phil is survived by his children, Phillip W. (Claudia), Lisa (Jim) Welch, and Laura (Michel) Bald. He also leaves behind the grandchildren he adored: Phillip, Amanda (Gino), Justin, Kelsey, Hannah, Joey, Alexis, and his great-grandchild, Ava. Phil is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Lillian, his wife Stephanie, and his brother, George.
Phil served with the Arlington Heights Police Department for 35 years. During his retirement, some of Phil's favorite pastimes included golfing, drinking beer and swearing at the Bears every Sunday afternoon. Phil also enjoyed keeping an eye on the shenanigans happening in and around his house thanks to one grandkid or the other. He could usually be found standing in the kitchen having a beer and over feeding his beloved dog, Taylor.
Phil was a patient, easy going guy who enjoyed a cigarette and a good laugh. As he got older, Phil developed a cantankerous side that was legendary. He never received a Christmas or birthday present that he actually liked, and no human on earth could make a recipe "the way your Ma made it."
He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Services will be private.
