Queena P. McCarthyOf Buffalo Grove, Illinois / Dillon, Colorado (1978-2002)Queena P. McCarthy born December 3, 1929 to Leslie B. and Queena E. (n"e Nystrom) McMahon. After many years in the grips of Alzheimer"s disease, she passed peacefully bathed in sunlight the afternoon of May 21, 2015.Queena was a wonderful mother and raised her family of five in Northbrook, IL. Following the death of her husband, she uprooted and started a new chapter of her life in the high mountains of Colorado.Queena loved the nature that surrounded her two mile high home in Dillon Colorado. She was an avid gardener and backyard birdwatcher. She hiked in, skied on and soaked up the beauty of the mountains daily. She thrived in her chosen community, had wonderful friends and many good times there. Queena completely enjoyed her many years of work as a Teachers Aide at Dillon Valley Elementary School where she was loved by her students and peers. Queena returned to Illinois in 2002 where she was cared for until her passing.Queena is survived by her children Leslie (Michael) Sweeney, Michael (Susan) McCarthy, Christy McCarthy and Patrick (Erin) McCarthy, her sister Raphael McMahon, six grand, two great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews who she deeply cherished.She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband E. Allan McCarthy; her daughter Allyn (Joseph) Thomas; her brother Richard McMahonVisitation Wednesday, May 27th, 2015 from 3:00 PM until the time of funeral service at 7:00 PM at the Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road, (4 blocks south of Palatine Road) Arlington Heights. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Alzheimer"s Assn. of Greater Chicago, 8430 W.
