Robert M. Barut

Robert (Bob) M. Barut, 92, a former long-time resident of Prospect Heights, was born September 25, 1931 in Chicago, IL to Michael and Marie (nee Ciaputa) Barut. He passed peacefully Monday, August 19, 2024 at his home in Antioch, Illinois.

Bob served in the Air Force after the Korean War. Following his service, he had a successful sales career in the corrugated packaging industry.

He served as a commissioner on the Prospect Heights Park District board for over 10 years and was an instrumental contributor in the initial development of the Gary Morava Recreation Center. Bob loved baseball and managed Prospect Heights Little League teams in the 1970's, 1980's, and in the 2000's. He had many winning seasons with the Indians, Cardinals and White Sox. Additionally, he was a member of the Prospect Heights Lions Club and an avid tennis player into his early 80's.

Robert is survived by his children: Robert (Linda) Barut Jr., Wendy Barut and Julianne (Gerald) Barut-Woods; his grandchildren: Michael and Ryan Woods and Joshua (Margo) Kilgore. He is also survived by his former spouse, Carolyn Barut.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his grandson Corey Woods and beloved companion Cheryl McNeil.

Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm Friday, August 23, 22024 at the Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Rd., Arlington Heights, IL 60004. Prayers 9:00 am, Saturday, August 24, 2024, from the Funeral Home proceeding to St. Thomas Becket Catholic Church, 1321 Burning Bush Lane, Mount Prospect, IL 60056 for Mass at 10:00 AM. Interment following at St. Adalbert Cemetery, Niles, IL.
