Robert Grzonka, 88, of Arlington Heights, IL, peacefully passed away on January 30, surrounded by loved ones, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Bob was born on May 8, 1936, in Little Saumico, WI to the late Anna (nee Matas) and Frank Grzonka. Upon graduating high school, he enlisted in the US Army where he received a badge for sharp shooting. After an honorable discharge Bob went on to become a skilled mechanic and loved what he did for a living. He retired in 2010 and was able to pursue his love of fishing, gardening, and feeding his birds.
Bob leaves behind his loving wife of 43 years, Betty (nee Kilcullen). Together Bob & Betty built a life filled with love, family, companionship, and adventures. They immensely enjoyed camping, boating, traveling, going to Cubs games, and spending time with their families and friends.
Bob was the proud father of Timothy (Sandy), Edward, Lori (Bill) Sall, Deborah, Scott (Virginia) and Dawn (Frank) Pierri; kids by heart, Bob (Desirée), Stephen and Eric (Pamela) Jung and loving brother to his sister Christine (Stephen) Murphy, with whom he shared a special bond. He was also the delighted grandfather of nineteen and great-grandfather of eleven. Nothing brought a smile to his face and a twinkle to his eye like his kids and grandkids; his love for them was immeasurable.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Anna and Frank Sr.; siblings Frank, Jr., Richard, Joan, Dorothy, Dolores & Audrey; ex-wife Carol and Beloved children Robert Jr. and Kenneth, who he loved eternally.
Bob’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Above all, he valued family, and his legacy will continue through his surviving children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sister, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
