Ronald Walter Skonning

Of Elgin, formerly of Arlington Heights

Ronald W. Skonning was born on February 3, 1938, in Chicago to Walter and Edith (nee Jackson) Skonning. He died Friday, August 27, 2021, in Elk Grove Village.

Mr. Skonning served in the United States Air Force. He owned and operated Erco Mfg. in Chicago for more than 20 years. Later he was a computer programmer for Kemper and Wheels Inc. He loved boating, coaching football, the ocean, animals (especially all types of birds) and walking the family dogs throughout the neighborhood. Ron adored spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and was loved by all.

Ronald is survived by his spouse of 57 years, Barbara (Clauss) whom he married June 20, 1964, in Elk Grove Village; children, Steve and Michael (Donna) Skonning, and Diane Zimmerman; grandchildren, Jessica, Kevin and Luke Skonning; Samantha and Sarah Zimmerman, Ava and Elizabeth Skonning; brother, Richard (Linda) Skonning; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation Tuesday, August 31, 2021, from 11:00 am until the 1:00 pm Funeral Service at Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 North Arlington Heights Road (four blocks south of Palatine Road), Arlington Heights, IL 60004. Interment is private.
