Roy Anderson was born November 16, 1923 in Chicago, Illinois to Oscar and Anna (nee Schulik) Anderson. He passed away Thursday, September 13, 2018 at home, surrounded by his family.
Roy graduated from Lane Technical High School, where he was on the honor roll and the rifle team. He then served in the Navy, during WWII, at Pearl Harbor and in the Pacific and Atlantic Theaters. He graduated from Northwestern University in 1950 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and Accounting, while attending Northwestern, he served as President of Beta Alpha Psi, an accounting honors fraternity. He passed his CPA examination in 1952. From 1954 to 1959 Roy was the City Comptroller for the city of Peoria. Under his leadership, Peoria became the first city in Illinois to receive the Certificate of Conformance for Financial Reporting. From 1959 to 1960 he was the Finance Director for the Village of Arlington Heights, Illinois. Roy served as the Chief Financial Officer for the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund from 1960 to 1988 during which time the Certificate of Conformance for Financial Reporting was awarded, the first public pension fund in the United States to receive the award.
Roy was a member of the Governmental Financial Officer Association (GFOA) Accounting Standards Board, a Consultant for the Certificate of Conformance GFOA program, President of the Illinois chapter of the GFOA, and was an instructor in Governmental Accounting at Northwestern University night school.
As a member of Our Lady of the Wayside Catholic Church, Roy served as a Eucharistic Minister and Lector and a Presider for Communion Service. He also served on the Adult Education Committee, the Liturgical Committee and as a sponsor in the RCIA program.
Roy is survived by his wife of 64 years, Annette (nee Bedessem) Anderson and his children Jeanine (Albin) Majewski, Elizabeth “Liz” Anderson (John Manson); his grandchildren Richard (Elizabeth) Majewski, James Majewski, Kathryn (Sean) Ayres, Amanda Majewski, Aubrey Manson and Lisa (Brian) Christensen.
He is preceded in death by his son Philip Douglas Anderson and his parents.
Visitation from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm, Friday, September 21, 2018 at Glueckert Funeral Home Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Rd. (4 blocks south of Palatine Rd.), Arlington Heights, and from 8:30 am until time of Mass, 9:30 am Saturday, September 22, 2018 at Our Lady of the Wayside Catholic Church, 440 S. Mitchell Ave., Arlington Heights, Interment All Saints Cemetery.
