A graduate of T.F. North High School, Scott continued his education at T.C.C. in South Holland. He began his retail career at just 17 years old, working as a stock boy at O’Connor and Goldberg. Over the years, he held many jobs—including at Hunters, where he made countless friends—but it was at Macy’s where Scott truly found his home.
During his time working downtown, Scott always had a story to share about the celebrities he met—Oprah, several of Chicago’s mayors, and stars of both screen and stage were among his many customers. His stories were always full of life and excitement.
Scott had a gift for connecting with people. He would do anything for anyone. One of his greatest joys was mentoring his fellow employees—bringing them under his wing, helping train them for new roles, and being there to talk when life wasn’t going their way. He never judged anyone and truly believed that anyone could achieve their dreams if they put their mind to it.
To us, he was more than a dedicated worker—he was the best brother we could ever ask for and a blessing to his nieces and nephews. He even had a Macy's fashion stylist for his 5-year-old grandnephew Lucas. For every birthday and holiday, "Uncle Scottie" would send Lukie the biggest box filled with the latest fashions—and even more importantly, the coolest toys any child could hope for. Uncle Scottie was the best.
Scott is survived by his sister, Tina (Bill) Howarth of Crown Point, IN; nieces, Lindsay (Steven) Kepchar of Crown Point, IN; Katie Howarth and son Lucas. His brother, Brian A. (Cyndi) Steif of Woodstock, IL; nephew, Brian N. Steif of Loveland, CO; and niece, Brianne Steif of Lake in the Hills, IL,

The world lost a quiet hero way too soon. Rest easy, Scott. You will be greatly missed. Love you.
