

Teresa G. Soto passed away on July 21, 2024 in Arlington Heights, Illinois.
She was born on May 19, 1931 in Vergara, Uruguay to Abelardo and Animia Garcia.
She graduated from the national Medical School of Uruguay in 1956. She trained as a pediatrician in Montevideo, then moved to Peru in 1958 after meeting her husband. She then practiced in the slums around Lima, Peru. In 1971, she and her family moved to Birmingham, Alabama. She trained as a dermatologist at UAB, then started a practice in Bessemer, AL until she retired in 1994.
Among her favorite activities are gardening, Ikebana, reading as well as traveling. She volunteered at the Birmingham Botanical Garden and she was a docent at the Birmingham Museum of Art, where she specialized in pre-Columbian art.
She is survived by her children Erick Soto, Pablo (Lisa) Soto and Andres (Erin) Soto; her grandchildren Gabriel, Anthony and Patrick Soto.
She is preceded in death by her husband Benigno Soto and her siblings Escolastica, Animia, Leon, Ema, Abelardo, Elena, Luis, Luisa, Carlos and Cecilia.
A memorial service will take place on August 24, 2024, 2:00 PM at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 4600 Preserve Parkway, Hoover, Alabama 35226.
She will be remembered for having a full and meaningful life, for her loyal friendships and the ability to adapt to big changes. She was proud of her accomplishments and taught others to do the same.
