Visitation for Thomas will be on Sunday, June 5, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Lauterburg and Oehler Funeral Home, 2000 E. Northwest Highway, Arlington Heights.
His funeral will be on Monday, June 6, beginning at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m., proceeding to Our Lady of the Wayside Church, 440 S. Mitchell, Arlington Heights, for Mass at 11:00 a.m. He will be buried in All Saints Cemetery.
Thomas was a devoted husband; loving brother, father, son, brother-in-law, nephew, uncle and cousin; and a loyal friend.
He will be dearly missed by his wife of 35 years, Judith (nee Wampach); sister Suzanne Mazur and her husband Paul; his wife Judith's family and many circles of friends including those from Door County; St. Raymond's, especially his Branches "kids;" Saint Viator/Sacred Heart of Mary; Holy Ghost in Wood Dale; Our Lady of the Wayside and the "counter culture" group at Eros Restaurant.
Thomas was admired by family and friends for his deep faith and perseverance in the midst of struggling with numerous illnesses for more than 20 years. His kindness, sincerity, dry wit, wisdom and compassion were a gift to all whose lives he touched.
He was preceded in death by his parents Giselle and Carl Amberg and his daughter Stephanie.
His wife Judith is deeply grateful to the knowledgeable and compassionate doctors, nurses and others who have cared for Thomas over the years at Northwest Community Hospital, Manor Care of Arlington Heights and Hospice and Palliative Care of Northeastern Illinois. Their care has been a reflection of God's presence and an answer to the many prayers of family and friends.
There is no need to wear black to Thomas's services. He would want you to wear your favorite bright colors to celebrate the fact that he has, in his words, "gone home."
Tom was the "Wind Beneath the Wings" of his "Jude," supporting her in all she did during her days at Sacred Heart of Mary and Saint Viator High Schools. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his name to the Scholarship Endowment Fund at Saint Viator High School, 1213 E. Oakton Street, Arlington Heights, Illinois, 60004 or online at www.saintviator.com, would be appreciated. Another option for contributions is "As Our Own," P.O. Box 101282, Chicago, Illinois or online at www.AsOurOwn.org. This Christian ministry which provides orphan care in India has been very supportive of Thomas's sister Suzanne.
