Ben was married to JoAnn, the love of his life for 52 years. The two met when they were 6 years old, and at that point his favorite thing was to throw little toy tractors at her. The two built an amazing life together and shared a deep love for each other and their family. They spent many years building their lake house from the ground up and he enjoyed being out there as much as possible.
Everyone who knew Ben loved him and he was well known for picking on those he liked. He gave nicknames to those closest to him and it wasn’t unusual to be greeted by him saying “why, hello dummy” and everyone knew that his grandkids were his “dirtbags”. Ben was a man of faith, he loved animals and animal videos, he enjoyed working on puzzles on his iPad and his favorite hobby was making custom pens and selling them at gun shows.
Ben was a loving husband and the best father and grandfather anyone could ask for. He has been described as a man of integrity, and one who would help anyone in need and never ask for anything in return. He was a good friend, mentor and was loved by all of his extended family. He loved and supported his family unconditionally and created keepsakes for them by writing notes and captions on any programs available.
Ben started his career by joining the Army and serving in Ft. Bragg, NC as part of the 82nd Airborne Division. After an honorable discharge, he returned to Texas where he earned his master licenses for plumbing and electrical. He was part owner in several businesses over the years and eventually moved to the DFW area. He retired as a Sr. Chief Engineer for Jones Lang LaSalle.
He is survived by his wife, JoAnn, his two daughters Jodie Hawkins (John) and Crystal Cash (Jeff), his grandchildren Ethan, Abbie and John Luke, his beloved dogs Prissy, Bear, Peanut, Dobbie and his granddogs Midget and Daisie.
