It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Bettye Jo Conger Lyon, and also share our confidence and joy that she is now in the arms of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Ms. Lyon died peacefully on September 1, 2015 at Arlington Memorial Hospital of complications resulting from diabetes.
Bettye was 84 years old, born March 25, 1931 in Hillsboro, Texas. She was predeceased by her parents Luna and Minnie Sessums Conger, and brothers Luna, Jr. and Bob Conger, and son-in-law Tim Lindwall.
She was a loving mother to her children - Ronald F. Lyon of Mena, Arkansas and his wife Rosie; Karen Lindwall-Bourg of Melissa, Texas and her husband Fred Bourg; and Anita Querry of Arlington, Texas and her husband Mike.
She was a doting and entertaining “Grammy” to 11 grandchildren - Katie Porter, Matthew Lindwall, Melanie Schaab, Andrew Lindwall, Philip King, Leah King, Sarah King, Daq Querry, Jon Bourg, Lauren Dill, and Jeff Bourg, and 7 great grandchildren - Cole Porter, Ada Schaab, Lottie Schaab, Connor Dill, Collin Dill, Caitlyn Dill, and Skye Bourg.
She is also survived by her sister, Rubbie Pryor of Deer Park, Texas, and sister in law, Sandra Conger of Arlington, Texas and many nieces and nephews.
Bettye graduated from Waco High School, Waco, Texas. She held several positions as a secretary throughout her life, including Lamar Baptist Church in Arlington, Texas, for 17 years. She also worked at the Arlington Library West Branch.
She was a dedicated member of Meadow Lane Baptist Church, Lamar Baptist Church, and Grace (formerly Woodland West) Baptist Church in her Arlington years, and First Baptist, Henderson, Kentucky from 1966-1976.
Bettye was a great prayer warrior and enjoyed teaching Sunday School. Some of her favorite pastimes were reading, knitting, sending greeting cards, and watching Texas Rangers baseball and Dallas Cowboys football.
One of her greatest joys was found in spending time with friends, especially Jan Wehr and the late Colleen Thompson.
Ms. Lyon will be cremated under direction of Moore Funeral Home.
A memorial service will be held at Lamar Baptist Church, 1000 W. Lamar Blvd., Arlington, Texas 76012, on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at 1:00 PM, with family visitation afterwards. Interment will be at Rosemound Cemetery in Waco, Texas at a later date.
