Charles was born in west Texas but when he was four years old his parents, James and Arietta, moved the family to Bonham, Texas.
After graduating from Bonham High School he went to work for the Texas Department of Transportation in Fannin County until entering the U.S. Air Force in 1951. He was a proud Air Force veteran who served during the Korean Conflict. From 1951 to 1955, he was the crew chief on a B-29 stationed on numerous bases including Biggs, El Paso, Elmendorf, Anchorage and Thule, Greenland. From moose on the runway to polar bears sailing by on ice floats, he enjoyed telling stories, recalling those days of service and the men with whom he served.
After leaving the Air Force having achieved rank of S Sgt (T) he married Gloria, his wife of 64 years, and moved to Arlington where he attended Arlington State College earning his degree in Civil Engineering.
Charles worked for the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDot) for 40 years, primarily as a civil engineer designing plans for various major highways and interstates in and around Tarrant County. He had several interesting stories including one about almost getting shot while surveying land for a future project.
His other interests included farming, ranching, American and Texas history, and coin collecting. He was a staunch supporter of the Constitution and the Second Amendment. He was descended from Roland Ware, American Patriot of the American Revolutionary War. Fiercely proud of his country, he was a Western movie buff who loved the classics, but his most favorite movies were those true stories of our national heroes. He was most fond of Above and Beyond, Sargent York, and To Hell and Back. An avid animal lover he always had a pet in his arms or by his side from the time he could walk. Charles also enjoyed Gospel music, Classic Country music, but especially marching band music.
Charles was a loving husband, father and uncle who will be missed dearly by his family.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, James L. and Arietta Ware; and baby daughter, Gloria Jean.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria A. Ware; daughter, Janet Vermillion; several beloved nieces and nephews; and one remaining feral cat, Red.
He requested to be cremated and his ashes held until such time when a joint memorial service could be held for him and Gloria. A celebration of their lives will be held at 10:30am on Thursday, May 25, 2023 at Moore Bowen Road Funeral Home, with visitation from 9:30am until the time of service. Internment and Military Honors will be held at 1:00pm at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
