Debra E. Garrett

Debra was born in Kansas City, Kansas on December 27, 1953 to her parents Earl and Minnie Johnson. She graduated from Liberty High School just outside of Kansas City and went on to earn her Bachelors of Arts Degree in Education from Northwest Missouri State University in 1974.

In 1975 Debra met the love of her life, Virgil Garrett, in Kansas City, Kansas. The two were joined in marriage on May 15, 1976 and joyfully celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary this year.

Debra worked as a Reservation Specialist for American Airlines for 25 years. She enjoyed watching her sons play softball in Bedford, Texas and was a well-loved spectator among their teammates and friends. Debra adored evenings spent with her grandson, watching him grow and learn, as well as the precious time she spent with her community of friends. She was an active and involved member of Fielder Church in Arlington, where she sang in the choir for many years and participated in a very close small group class.

Debra will especially be remembered for her loving dedication of her family, for whom she cared deeply. She was known for her positive and outgoing nature, always taking time to show kindness to anyone she came in contact with. Debra’s love for friends and family brought a smile to everyone’s face and she never met a stranger.

She is preceded in death by father-in-law Emerson Peck.

Debra is survived by her parents Earl and Minnie Johnson; husband Virgil, son Chris and wife Crystal of Grand Prairie; son Scott and wife Amanda of Arlington; grandson Colton; brother David Johnson and wife Lisa of Prairie Village, Kansas; brother Danny Johnson and wife Cathy of Liberty, Missouri; mother-in-law Shirley Peck, sister-in-law Vickie León and husband Gerardo as well as nieces and nephews Cody Johnson, Cole Johnson, Casey Johnson, Joshua Johnson, Alex León, and Cassandra Gonzales, and other family and friends.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. at Fielder Church on Monday, June 30, 2012. Jerry Morris of Fielder Church will be officiating. Burial will follow the funeral at Moore Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held at 4-6p.m. on Sunday, June 29, 2014 at Moore Funeral Home on Bowen Rd in Arlington, Texas.
