Ed (or Ted as he was called in the family) was born on June 12, 1943 in Philadelphia, PA, the only child of Edward and Jeanette Morton. He lived in Philadelphia and Ashland, Kentucky before graduating from high school in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He graduated from Indiana University-Fort Wayne before accepting his first position at IU- South Bend, where he obtained a Master’s Degree in Counseling. He then began a 40 year career in higher education, concluding with 30 years as Assistant Dean of Science for Student Affairs and Health Professions Advisor at the University of Texas at Arlington. Ed’s life calling was counseling students, and he positively impacted the lives of countless aspiring future physicians and allied health practitioners.
Among his awards were Professional Advisor of the Year at UTA and the National Academic Advising
Association National Certificate of Merit for Outstanding Student Advising.
Ed’s passions outside of work were spending time in Florida near the ocean and classic cars. He had always hoped to own a Shelby Cobra one day, a wish unfortunately not fulfilled. He had a gentle spirit, a wonderful smile, and an adventurous nature that will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his wife, Anne Church Morton; his son, Marc Lane Morton; and his granddaughter, Sasha Marie Morton.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, gifts in Ed’s memory may be made to the University of Texas at Arlington Scholarship Fund or to the American Heart Association.
A memorial service for Ed will be held on Saturday, March 9 at 2:00 pm at the First United Methodist Church Arlington – Vandergriff Chapel. An informal reception will follow in Hagler Hall at the church.
Post online condolences at Moore Bowen Road Funeral Home.
