He passed away, surrounded by family at the home he was born and raised, in Arlington, Texas. He showed strength, courage, and faith during a brief battle with cancer.
Butch was born to Adivino and Maria Guerra on February 20, 1961, in Arlington, TX. A man of many talents, Butch had several trades during his life. Most notable was his work as a painter and drywall contractor. A family skill that had been passed down from his father that he was always happy to share with others. Butch married Oralia and together they had 5 children: Tony, Frankie, Monica, Victoria, and Ruben.
Butch had many titles and roles during his lifetime, but his favorite was being a grandfather, “Cowboy” to his grandchildren. His grandchildren loved his spontaneity and the different adventures he would take them on. Cowboy was always ready for a good time and loved to support his grandchildren in their different endeavors. He taught them the value of hard work when they would assist him on the weekends at Traders Village. He made each birthday or holiday special with thoughtful gifts. Little Bill, David McSwirly, Pancho Taco, Paw Patrol, Buddakhan, Dodo Bird, Momo, Monkey Bear, and Mills each had a relationship as unique and special as the nickname he gave them.
Butch never met a stranger with his charming personality and smile. He loved the Dallas Cowboys although they continually disappointed him. He also loved the New York Yankees and Texas Longhorns. His weekends were spent watching football or attending his grandchildren’s activities. Butch also loved going to the casinos; this was a love shared with him by his sisters. He was a natural-born salesman and loved to go to garage sales and resell his finds. As a lifelong Texan, Butch loved and knew how to barbecue! He also loved hunting, fishing, and music.
Butch was preceded in death by his parents Adivino and Maria Guerra, son Frankie Guerra, brother Tony Villanueva, nephew Steven Villanueva, niece Dani Sanders, sister Sylvia Dixon, and brother-in-law Andrew Davis.
Butch will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. He is survived by his children Tony (Amber) Guerra, Monica (Dwayne) Pilcher, Victoria (Tony) Saysanasongkham, and Ruben (Mari) Guerra; his grandchildren Kristopher Guerra, McKenzie and Aniston Pilcher, Joshua and Joseph Saysansongkham, David, Xavier, and Dominic Guerra and Amelia Guerra. His sisters Beatrice Davis and Mary Lou (Frank) Vasquez, close niece Amy Berkebile, close friends Terry “Bubba” Hewitt and Kevin Duran, the love of his life Oralia Guerra and his chick magnet and constant companion, his Yorkie Samson. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews as well as an extended family of beloved tias, tios, and cousins.
