

A visitation for Jamal will be held Monday, February 14, 2022, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Moore Bowen Road Funeral Home, 4216 South Bowen Road, Arlington, TX 76016. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at 10:30 AM, 4216 South Bowen Road, Arlington, TX 76016. A committal service will occur Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at 1:15 PM at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, TX 75211.
Jamal Salim Muhammad-El was born October 12, 1947, in Beckley, West Virginia to James Hull and Derotha (Dickerson) Hull. He led a full and varied life. He attended school in New York City, New York. While in school he participated in the band drumline. He completed his GED in his last year of high school. He met and married his first wife, Rajeah soon after, and together had two children. He then joined the U.S. Army in 1967 and served during the Vietnam War. Once he was honorable discharged from the U.S. Army in 1969 he and his first wife soon separated and he relocated to Ogden, UT to attend Weber State University. While at the college he met and married his second wife, Marquitta Bumpers in 1977.
In 1980 he enter the U.S. Navy Reserves where he served 21 and was a part of the Seabees. In 1984 he and his family moved to Dallas, TX. He spent twenty years working for Dallas Air Rapid Transport (DART). Once he retired from the military he completed his Peace Officer training from Cedar Valley College and worked until retirement for Dallas Independent School District as a Peace Officer in their High Schools. Always loving to give back he served for three years until he became too sick on the Security Team at Gateway Church Grand Prairie Campus.
He was preceded in death by his father James Hull, brother Melvin Hull, his sisters-in-law Shirley Hull, Vanetta Bumpers, his brother-in-law Bishop Browne, Jr., nephew Bishop Browne, III., and son-in-law Michael Rockhold.
He is survived by his mother Derotha, his wife Marquitta, his children Aginah (James Nelson), Jamal, Kristi Rockhold, Pchernavia, and Ayesha (Jason Hawkins); his grandchildren Jessica Sommers, Raniyah Rockhold, Zachary Rockhold, Amirah Nelson, Akilah Nelson, Jihad Nelson, Jalil Nelson, Jawwaad Nelson, and Dimitri Hawkins; his great-grandchildren Laila Moore, Daja James, Dana Turner, Sophia Sommers, Nakeida Brimlett, Valentina Nelson, Aaliyah Diaz; his brother Richard, his sister Leona, his brothers-in-law Lee (Marla) Bumpers, Reverend Jerry (Patricia) Bumpers, Mark Bumpers, and Steve Bumpers; his sisters-in-law Virginia Browne, Sherry (E. Alford) Amaechiokonji-Alford and Ella Carpenter. Also, a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and former colleagues.
