Part 3 In Memory of Kevin Gary
That devotion matured over time to create a safe place to be together, to grow together, to support each in blooming in their unique ways. That devotion was the fertile ground from which they could take the time to know their hearts and decide what was best together, to savor a completely ordinary day, to feed the birds and wild critters, to get past disappointment, disagreement and discouragement and find their strength to meet those challenges, to spend time being playfully mischievous together.
Yes, there were troubles and struggles, that devotion was bigger than it all.
They shared some of the large events of our times, a tornado hitting  close to home, the Texas deep freeze of 2021, the pandemic that created turmoil in all our lives. They shared more personal events like the flooding of their apartment from the water heater  upstairs . They met the mundane daily challenges of sharing space and expectations together. 
These last few weeks as I have reflected on the years Kevin was in my life, my heart has often shouted at me: Their time together was cut short!! It ended too soon. How can this be? How can this be right?   My heart doesn’t have the answers. The loss  obscures it. I do hear the echoes of loss that have come from many directions in our state and nation the last several years. Loss of a loved one, loss of a way of life, loss of a life once lived. I see how important it is to be grateful for this physical time we have together. Today in honor of the Kevin’s life, sometime today put on your magic glasses, look with your eyes of wonder, joy and appreciation for the blessing of the life you share with dear ones today. Perhaps you will speak to them from your heart,  share a funny,  memory that lightens  hearts, perhaps  a shared silence will transmit deep knowing, perhaps you will hold their hand, kiss them, hug them, dance and clown around. or walk side by side. 
Let this be Kevin's gift to  you today.   









Part 2 In Memory of Kevin Gary
The gift I most deeply cherish is the loving relationship he created and shared with my daughter, Jessica.
I would like to share with you some of what that gift was for me. For a Mother’s heart few things are as important as the choices her child makes for a life partner, an intimate companion, the person they want to share their life with. When that choice results in a caring, loving, happy relationship, it is a precious gift indeed.
What this Mother’s heart came to see over the years Jessica and Kevin were together was characterized by Devotion to being together, devotion to being there for one another, devotion to creating a meaningful, purposeful life together. That devotion was for the long haul, to grow old together. 


Part 1 In memory of Kevin Gary 
Today I am thinking of the last time Kevin and I were together. There I was with a patch over one eye and a significant cataract in the other. I wasn’t looking my best. My vision was dimmed. I was there because he and Jessica had welcomed me into their apartment for my eye surgery. 
Through an unusual sequence of events, my plans had fallen through and at the last minute I was asking them to help me out. Kevin stepped up and generously helped me out. He got things sorted out with his work so he could take me. He got me safely to my surgery and took good care of me once I got back to the apartment. I appreciated that very much. 
I didn’t know it would be the last time we were together. Looking back I can see past that aggravation of having my plans fall through to the gift of this special opportunity. It has given me a sharp memory of him and his kindness, something to hold in my heart. 
Through the years Jessica and Kevin spent together, he eased my way many times. Nancy and Kevin made the difference in me having a more reliable car. He helped me in getting a new phone – a smart phone – learning how to use that newfangled thing. Kevin showed lots of patience that time. There were various other electronic devices involved. There were holidays at my home and their apartment. I have much appreciation for the many ways he added to my life. 
 

He was always one of the first to encourage you when others would have a bad word! He was compassionate and deeply cared for his friends! He would always help share your burdens!! We will miss you so much Kevin!!
