Mary was born on June 16, 1941, in Dallas, Texas, to Cleo and Cynthia Marie Ritter. She was the youngest of six siblings—a role she embraced fully, learning early how to hold her own and keep life interesting. Her family later moved to Poteau, Oklahoma, where she met and married the love of her life, Virgle Lee Flanary. Together, they built a life centered on love, family, and unwavering devotion.
Mary dedicated her life to her family. She was a proud homemaker, a devoted mother, and an especially proud grandmother. Her greatest joy came from the people she loved most, and she made sure they always knew it—whether through a home-cooked meal, a quick phone call, or simply being there when it mattered.
She was also known for a few favorite pastimes that brought her plenty of happiness—and maybe a little luck. Mary loved a good game of BINGO (and she fully intended to win), enjoyed the occasional trip to Shreveport to try her hand at the slots, and generously gave her time volunteering with the Red Cross. She had a way of finding joy in the simple things and a little excitement in the fun ones.
Mary is survived by her loving daughters, Terresa Tate and her husband, Roger Tate, and Tracie Pendolino and her husband, Jason Pendolino; and her cherished grandchildren, Meredith and Parker Tate, who brought endless pride and joy to her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Cleo and Marie Ritter; her beloved husband, Virgle Lee Flanary; her brothers, Lonnie Ritter, Ozell Ritter, Dale Ritter, and Billy Ritter; and her sister, Loretta Morris. No doubt, there was quite a reunion waiting for her.
Family and friends are invited to attend services at Moore Bowen Road Funeral Home, 4216 S. Bowen Road, Arlington, Texas 76016. On Friday, April 10, 2026 a viewing will be held at 9:00 a.m., followed by funeral services at 10:00 a.m., and burial at DFW National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, TX 75211 at 1:00 p.m. for those who wish to attend.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider bringing a plant—something that can be cared for and cherished, just as Mary cared for those she loved. It feels only right to keep a little piece of her growing with us.
