

He was born in DeSoto, Texas in the home of his maternal grandparents, but was raised in the Oak Cliff section of Dallas.
He attended Sunset High School and he graduated in 1948. Norman went to college in Arlington until December 1950, when the United States Air Force came calling during the Korean War.
During four years of active duty, Norman was a crew member on the B-29. His tour took him from San Antonio, to Utah and finally, Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines.
After leaving active duty, Norman returned to college and started a career at Vought Aircraft in Grand Prairie where he eventually spent 26 years working on the F8 and A7 projects along with projects for Boeing and the ASAT missile program.
He was also a member of the Texas Air National Guard as a C-119 crew member.
Norman was also an accomplished Private Pilot having started flying in 1957. Owning several small planes over the years, Norman was either flying or working on someone’s plane for the next 60 years, as he was also a licensed A&P Mechanic.
In 1959 Norman married Ruthelma Hall and they shared life together until her passing in 2022. They spent their entire married life living in Arlington, Texas where they were both members of the Arlington First Church of the Nazarene for more than 40 years.
The two of them took many trips over the years traveling with friends Dave and Donna, Tom and Dot, Grant and Mary Ann, and many others from their circle of airport friends.
Norman stayed active until his early 90’s.
He was preceded in death by his father, Grady and mother, Lucile Steadman; wife, Ruth; his sister, Martha Steadman; brother, Ronael Steadman; and stepson, George Hawks.
Norman is survived by his son, Tony (Cleva); stepdaughter, Karen Hawks (Kilena); grandson, Max (Allyson) and grandson, Alex.
Thanks to all the staff at Morada Lake Arlington for all the kind help and care that Norman received for the last fifteen months and to all the staff and nurses at Heart to Heart Hospice in Fort Worth.

A visitation for Norman will be held Sunday, December 8, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Moore Bowen Road Funeral Home, 4216 South Bowen Road, Arlington, TX 76016. A graveside service will occur Monday, December 9, 2024 from 2:30 PM to 3:00 PM at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, TX 75211.
