You lived, loved, played, worked, suffered, and now you rest in peace eternally little brother.

Today we lost our brother. After eight years of suffering with ALS his ravaged body waned and his soul left peacefully on February 8, 2025 at his long-time home in Arlington, Texas.

In his last days he would tell all of us when we called him to “love and care for yourselves, and love your families” followed with “you don’t want to end up like me.” With these words and his illness, he brought our family closer together. His words ring true.

Raúl loved to climb mountains, especially the fourteeners (mountains over 14,000 feet high). He and his wife had a list of all the mountains they had climbed over the years in Colorado. They also hiked the backcountry in New Mexico, Texas and the southwest. He loved the scenic views, fresh air, and the loneliness he experienced at the very top of the mountains. He called that a special place-GOD’s church, and he worshipped there.

One day we will see our brother again. He will remain in our hearts and minds with the wonderful memories he left us.

Rest easy little brother.

Right from my start at NBC 5, Raul was my friend.  We sat near each other, and the laughs, the talks, the side eye glances as things happened in the newsroom, we shared them all.

I often needed help getting my stories edited, and Raul's first word, as he sat in his chair each afternoon was, "What you got today?  It wasn't "Do you need help?" but basically, "I got you."

He always did.

When he got sick, it was our turn to tell him, we had it, it was ok, go rest.  

I miss him so, and I still look in his corner kinda hoping to see that smile,  while I don't see it, I feel his energy, his twinkle in his eye,  and I know he's with us all.

To his deal family,  thank you for sharing him with us, and please know we are all always here for you.

I knew Raul from working at NBC 5. He was the most honest person I knew. He would not hold back and call us out when something didn’t seem right. He so tried to convince me that being out in nature was good for you, as he always spoke about his camping trips. He was a strong energetic loving man. He is in GOD’s kingdom now free of pain. Rest in Peace my friend -- Raul was one of the most straight forward people I have ever met ... and there was never any question that each of his words - although sometimes sharp -- came from the heart. I learned a lot from him and will always treasure the stories he shared.   Thank you Raul!

Raul was a great friend. Even as his health failed he always had a kind greeting. I prefer to remember the strong Raul who supported his coworkers in so many ways. I’m glad his suffering is over. Rest in Peace, Raul!

Raul was a good man, and an even better editor. There’s a bit of comfort to knowing he’s reunited with  fellow NBC Dallas bureau editor, Gene. I can imagine them up there, still cracking jokes over my latest ratings scheme, as they laugh at me on speaker phone calling from Fort Worth saying “Ok, new idea!”

My heartfelt condolences to his family and close friends, and a sincere thank you for sharing him with his NBC5 family.

To the toughest man I ever knew. God be with you, brother. We all miss you.

Tío Raúl you were a great person in a world that didn’t deserve you. You were always so kind and funny, drawing so many people like you. You had a big heart and didn’t deserve to suffer like you did. Rest peacefully.

You were a strong athletic person, always climbing Mountains, riding your bicycle, running and playing tennis. You loved  nature and nature loved you back.

My love condolences he was one of my best friends classmates in school we’d talk about music n he’d show me his albums every time n he called me Ace Freeley Kiss lol my hair style, we got to FaceTime and and last txt I got was Be Safe my  friend . Love you forever wear your music wings proudly.
