Vernon “Sandy” Griffin passed away on November 3, 2024 in Arlington, TX at the age of 71. Vernon dedicated a significant portion of his life to service and community. He served in the United States Air Force from 1977 until 1993, where he was respected for his principles and commitment. Following his military career, Vernon continued his service at the City of Arlington Police Department in the property room.
Vernon is survived by his wife Jackie, daughter, Elizabeth, and son-in-law, Tony Tran. He also leaves behind his sisters, Nancy Bell and Debra Harris, along with a niece and nephews in North Carolina. His death was preceded by the passing of his siblings, Lottie Griffin, Lessie Peele, Eddie Griffin, and Hilton Griffin.
Vernon enjoyed spending time in his yard, watching old Westerns, and rooting for—and complaining about—the UNC Tarheels. His conversations with family and friends were cherished moments that highlighted his sense of humor.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Vernon’s memory can be made to the PKD Foundation, supporting research and care for those affected by Polycystic Kidney Disease.
