Abina Patricia O’Herlihy, 76, of Arlington, passed away on Thursday, February 10 in hospice. She was born in County Cork, Ireland, to Jeremiah and Margaret Lucey O’Herlihy. Her parents and brother, Jeremiah O’Herlihy, and sister, Teresa Moynihan, predeceased her. After high school, Patricia trained in hotel management in Cork. She came to America in 1967, became a citizen, and spent many years in hotel and condominium management in the DC area, including at the Shoreham Hotel in DC and the Representative in Arlington.
Patricia retired from her career early after developing a blood disease that resulted in a stroke. Although disabled, she remained active in her church and was a good friend to many both here and back in Ireland. Her friends greatly appreciated her Irish hospitality and her talents in cooking, sewing, and flower arranging.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Cathedral of St. Thomas More in Arlington on Saturday, February 26, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities, PO Box 1900, Merrifield, VA 22116-1900.
