

Allen Spottswood Allner, age 69, of Arlington Virginia, died suddenly at home on Monday August 25th of catastrophic respiratory failure following a short illness. Allen was born November 18th, 1955, in Indonesia to State Department parents, the late Fred & Betty Allner.
Allen spent his younger years abroad before the family settled in Bethesda, Maryland. Allen graduated from New Mexico State University in 1978 and spent the next several years traveling the Southwest and Dakotas on his motorcycle chasing oil rigs. Eventually, he moved to Florida where he became a lifelong Miami Dolphins fan. Upon returning to Bethesda, he ran several businesses including Tiger Moving and Storage and The Roswell Connection, before retiring to raise his sons Allen Jr. and Carter. He was happiest spending time on a boat with family and friends, and he taught his sons to fish by putting a rod in their hands before they could walk. A wonderful husband and a better father, Allen’s was a life well lived, and he was much loved.
Allen was preceded in death by his parents and his younger brother Carter. He is survived by his wife Liz, sons Allen Jr and Carter, brother Freddie and his sister Page Tyran as well as 7 nephews and 4 nieces.
Per Allen’s wishes there will be no funeral. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
