Nécrologie de Bruce Wald
Bruce Wald died on 2/14/2021 at the age 86 from heart failure. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Elizabeth, five children, eleven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He began his professional career at the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL), where he made major contributions to the world’s first reconnaissance satellite and a system for the radiolocation of enemy submarines, founded NRL’s first computer science branch, led its communication sciences division, and retired as executive director of space and communications. Following these 33 years at NRL, DR. Wald embarked on a 27-year second career consulting to industry, the Department of Defense, and the intelligence community, retiring in 2013 after 60 years of service to national defense. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in memory of Bruce to Doctors Without Borders, or to a charity of your choice. Instead of a service the family has decided to memorialize him remotely by collecting and compiling stories about him. If you have a memory or a story about him that you’d like to share, please send an email to [email protected]. Long or short, impression, anecdote, or full-blown story - doesn't matter. All contributions welcome! We’ll be compiling them and sharing on a public site later this year.
