

Clarence Turner Kipps, Jr., 93, passed away peacefully at his home in Arlington, VA on Wednesday, November 2, 2022. He was born in Arlington in 1929, the son of the late Clarence and Clara Kipps. He is survived by his six children, Susan Sullivan of Arlington, VA, Brenda Jenkins (Lee) of Tucson, AZ, Kathy Cooke of Arlington, VA, John Kipps (Debbie) of Vienna, VA, Don Kipps (Sherrie) of Ashburn, VA and Bob Kipps (Pamela) of Fairfax Station, VA; 15 loving grandchildren and 10 precious great-grandchildren.
Clarence, with his wife, Mary Louise who passed away in 2010, was a lifetime member of Resurrection Evangelical Lutheran Church in Arlington, VA. Born into a sharecropping family, he was one of five children and the first person in his family to go to college, attending American University and then on to law school at the George Washington University. From there, Clarence spent over 50 years building and leading the Government Contracts practice at Miller & Chevalier and representing some of the country’s largest defense contractors. Outside the office, he could typically be found with family and friends on his Culpeper farm hunting, fishing or practicing his golf game. His drive, perseverance and love of life was infectious to all around him.
The family invites friends to a memorial service at 11am on Thursday, November 17th, at Resurrection Evangelical Lutheran Church, 6201 Washington Blvd, Arlington VA. Following the service, a reception celebrating his life will be held at the church. A funeral and burial service will be held at 11am on Friday, November 18th at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in New Market, VA, followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (https://www.michaeljfox.org/) in memory of Mary D. Kipps.
