David DeForest Hallock

On the morning of Friday May 27th 2016, David passed away in his sleep. Born July 25, 1946 in Ithaca, New York to his parents Arthur and Genevieve. He is survived by his wife of nearly 34 years, Wilma; daughter, Kathy Murphy (Ethan); son, Douglas; sister, Julie Steele; the extended Steele/Sherwood/Smith/Murphy/Wood/Thokar/Stoughton families, his son from his first marriage, Daniel; and his many cousins, friends, and acquaintances. He retired from the Navy in June 1989 as an Information Technology Specialist. He participated in Scouting, Little League, and the United Methodist Men group of Messiah UMC. He enjoyed playing Scrabble, watching Mythbusters, and attending and watching wrestling events. A celebration of his life will be held at Messiah United Methodist Church in Springfield at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 3, 2016. He will be buried at Quantico National Cemetery beginning at 2:00 P.M. A visitation will be held at Murphy Funeral Home, 4510 Wilson Blvd., Arlington, Va. on Thursday, June 2nd, from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made toward Virginia Bronze Handbell Ensemble at www.vabronze.org or Messiah United Methodist Church.
