

15, 2014 after being hospitalized for over a year with Guillain-Barré
Syndrome.
A life-long resident of Alexandria, VA, Bruce began a 37-year career
at the Alexandria Floral Company and Greenhouses at age 15, first in
the greenhouses, then floral design and retail. While pursuing a BS in
Horticultural studies at Virginia Tech, he continued working and upon
graduation in 1974, was promoted to manager. In 1976, he began
teaching as adjunct faculty in the Horticulture department at the
Loudoun campus of Northern Virginia Community College. Upon his
retirement from Alexandria Floral in 2003, he became full-time faculty
at the college.
Bruce was an extremely talented florist and a popular teacher known
for his generosity and willingness to give time and energy to floral
customers and students alike. In addition, he volunteered and taught
classes at Green Spring Gardens Park and was a Board member for the
Friends of Green Spring. Bruce was a favorite speaker for many local
garden clubs and occasionally taught classes for Master Gardeners and
at the C. S. Monroe Technology Center in Leesburg, VA.
Bruce was admired and loved by his family, friends, students and
colleagues; he will be sorely missed. He is preceded in death by his father,
Harry C. Nash. He is survived by his beloved wife of 26 years, Mindy
Stephenson Nash, his mother Betty Nash of Lawrenceville, GA and sister
Connie James and husband Eddie of Cumming, GA.
Visitation will be at Murphy Funeral Home 4510 Wilson Blvd. Arlington, Va 22203, Monday, February 24, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. Funeral service will be held at Fairfax United Methodist Church, 10300 Stratford Ave, Fairfax, VA 22030. Tuesday, February 25 at 11 AM. Interment to follow at Columbia Gardens cemetery.
