April 16, 1953 – April 11, 2026
Debbie Sarafinas didn’t just enter a room, she lit it up, pulled up a chair, learned your name, your pet’s name, and likely your grandmother’s maiden name before the night was over. She never once met a stranger, because strangers, in Debbie’s world, simply didn’t exist, only friends she hadn’t hugged yet.
Born on April 16, 1953, Debbie lived life all in, with a full heart, a beautiful voice, and an open spirit. On April 11, 2026, Heaven got a whole lot warmer, and we have no doubt that John Sarafinas, her beloved husband who went ahead to save her a spot, was waiting at the gate with open arms.
Survived by her parents, Dale and Jane Brunner, and sister, Barbara Brown (Bob), Debbie leaves behind four daughters who were lucky enough to call her Mom: Jennifer Bannon, Casey Sarafinas, Tracy Graebener (Jonnie), and Courtenay Lockshin (Ben). A loving aunt to Brittany and Matthew Brown (Hannah), she also leaves ten grandchildren: Alexandra, Dylan, Aidan, Drew, Olivia, Connor, Elin, Caroline, Noa and Evelyn, who will forever carry the golden memories of “Mom-Mom” time, a sacred, glorious era where the word “no” was simply not part of her vocabulary. Cookies before dinner? Sure. Stay up later? Absolutely. One more hug? Always! The grandchildren were her greatest joy, loudest laugh, and the light behind her every smile.
A true animal lover, Debbie had an unspoken understanding with dogs. They recognized her kindness and were drawn to it. Throughout her life, she was rarely without a loving dog by her side, and their loyalty mirrored the love she gave so freely. Accompanying her through her final years, was her trusted companion and devoted dog, Buddy.
A spiritual soul with a heart wide open to absolutely everyone, Debbie loved fiercely and welcomed freely. Her home, her table, and her arms were always open. No RSVP required.
Debbie, thank you for showing us how to love without limits, welcome without conditions, and live life to the fullest. We love you dearly and will catch up soon enough.
A formal service at Arlington National Cemetery will be scheduled at a later date.
