Dellaine Doris Wyse, 84, died peacefully on April 26, 2025, from complications of lung cancer and pneumonia. Dellaine is survived by her husband, Frederick Wyse; and son, Andrew Wyse, and partner, Gordon Latta. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Stuart Lowe Tenney and his extended family; parents, Doris Blackwood and Hugh George Falconer; and brother, Lawrence Hugh Falconer and family.
Dellaine was born in Windsor, NSW, Australia in 1941. Between World War II and the Korean War, she lived with her family in Japan where her father was a member of the British Commonwealth Occupation Forces (BCOF), about which she edited “BCOF Kids Collected Memories of Japan 1947-2007”. In 1964, she sailed to the United Kingdom, worked and traveled in Europe and Africa before returning home. In 1971, she came to the United States and married Stuart Tenney, a naval officer she met while he was enjoying R&R in Australia. She worked and volunteered throughout her life, especially enjoying her time at Society of American Florists, Alexandria Grace Episcopal Church, and at non-profit Hope in Northern Virginia where she was Executive Director from 2006 until 2010. She and Fred opened their Alexandria home often to temporary visitors and to children and animals needing fostering, and they traveled extensively.
Dellaine’s personality attracted loyal friends who enjoyed her sharp sense of humor and pointed observations. “She made me laugh, … and get serious.” “Her wit and smile brightened each gathering.” She enjoyed the theatre, visual arts, and diligently played the piano throughout her life.
