Edward Walter Markey, Jr. entered into eternal rest on January 9, 2021 at INOVA Fairfax hospital. He was born January 6, 1954 at Fort Belvoir, Virginia to Ruth Esther Markey and the late Colonel Edward W. Markey (US Army). Ed was the beloved husband of Mary Beth, devoted father of Liliana, proud stepfather of Bruce Caviness, daughter-in-law Christine and grand-daughter Victoria, and cherished brother of Kathleen Colyer, Patricia Markey, Marguerite Nealon and Barbara Silver. Ed graduated from Saint Leo University in 1976. He was a member of Kappa Alpha Sigma Fraternity and had a life-long union with his fraternity brothers. Ed had a lauded 30-year career as a Sales Executive in the US and internationally including at Xerox and Compunetix corporations and Aethra Telecommunications of Ancona, Italy. Ed loved God, country, family and friends, of which he had hundreds around the world. He was known to be a gregarious, generous and good man. Ed made strong bonds with people and places. He was a genuine “people person” and his interest in those he encountered, even briefly, and their personal stories was enduring. Ed was interested in the world and what made it wag. He read four newspapers every day while sitting in his jeep with the radio on. He was a devout Catholic and could be brought to tears by a hymn or well-delivered homily. He also strongly believed in aliens. Ed loved the languor of summers at the beach, Phil Collins music, hosting friends for “Eddie burgers,” Washington football (“Get his ass!”) and watching World War II footage on the history channel. He was enormously proud of his family and their accomplishments, and his world view as an informed and engaged citizen was most proudly incarnate in his daughter whom he adored. He maintained an unconditional acceptance of God’s will and leaves an earthly life of love and duty that prepared his journey to eternal life. To remember Ed, the family requests your loving prayers and in lieu of donations asks for acts of personal kindness made in his memory. Friends and family are invited to join the mass through the "Join Livestream" button listed with the service for Edward.
