Mrs. Elizabeth Harding Casey Brown, 91 years old, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2012 in Arlington, Virginia. Mrs. Brown was born in Madisonville, Ohio, then a suburb of Cincinnati, on October 29, 1920. She was number six of eight children of stone quarry owner and farmer, William Casey and homemaker Sarah Bethel Casey.
Elizabeth Brown graduated from Withrow High School and attended the University of Cincinnati. She married Herbert Samuel Brown of Cincinnati. Elizabeth Brown first owned a hair salon in Avondale, Ohio and relocated with her children to Santa Monica, California in 1959. She became a licensed nurse working at a very famous hospital and in private duty in the Los Angeles area until her retirement.
Elizabeth Brown loved to live near the water as she later lived on Mercer Island, Washington and in Sebastopol, California. She loved going to the beach to watch the sunrise while drinking coffee and would drag her children as teenagers and then her granddaughter to participate. Strongly believing that education is the key to upward mobility, Elizabeth Brown went to school throughout her life and even took a class at 70 years old. She also sought adventures alone by train throughout the United States and western Europe at a moment’s notice.
Elizabeth Brown eventually moved to the east coast to tend to her brother, Otis Casey, and later lived near her daughter, Carole Brown Sadler. She was a lifetime Baptist. Elizabeth Brown is survived by her daughter, Carole Brown Sadler (married to Robert Sadler, Jr. in Woodbridge, VA); son Herbert S. Brown (Duluth, MN); two grandchildren, Hilary E. Sadler (Arlington, VA) and Robert Sadler, III (married to Amy Brenda Sadler in Berea, KY); three great-grandchildren, Mikaela Sadler, Zackary Sadler, and Corey Sadler-Knott; and a large number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
