Elaine was born on 11/23/32 in Washington DC to doting parents Henry and Hedwig (Borchers) Huschke. She had one sibling, a brother named Ralph, whom she adored. Elaine grew up in McLean, VA, but lived in neighboring Arlington from 1959 to 2025.
After high school, Elaine went to nursing school and earned her BSN. Elaine spent her career as a public health nurse in Arlington County. Her work in the community kept her grounded and endeared her to the lives she touched.
In early adulthood, Elaine was an Air Force spouse and lived in Texas and France. She really enjoyed living in France and had fond memories of her time there when her son Greg was a baby. As a young mom, she knitted many sweaters for her children and sewed countless one-of-a-kind Halloween costumes.
Elaine was a lifelong member of Lewinsville and even served as a deacon at one time. She retired in the late 90s and kept busy with a number of hobbies including gardening (she was a Master Gardener), knitting, sewing, and Sunday afternoon football (Go, Commanders!).
Her German heritage and traditions were perhaps most pronounced at Christmas time. She hosted Christmas Eve at her home for many, many years, often inviting friends and acquaintances who had nowhere else to go. Her kitchen was always a hub of activity, serving up good meals and good conversation. She was also no stranger to a good bundt cake!
Elaine is remembered for her unfailing kindness and warmth, which emanated to those around her. She had a gift for making others feel good about themselves. She was a beloved mom, grandma, great-grandma, neighbor, and friend.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, her brother and sister-in-law (Ralph and Virginia Huschke), and her son and daughter-in-law (Greg and Diane Davis).
She leaves behind two beloved daughters, Diana (Martin) Berend and Janet (Douglas) Kolbe. Her love lives on in her grandchildren: Claudia (Patrick) Moder, Mona (Josh) Larsen, Audrey Davis, Sophia Koehler, and Marty Berend. Elaine was blessed with nine great-grandchildren: Barrett, Gunther, Axel, Adrienne, Lydia, Liam, Ronan, Annabelle, and Grace.
