
On Wednesday, May 28, 2014, Janie Sawyer Truitt died at home in Arlington, VA after a brief illness. She is survived by her beloved husband of 69 years, James S. Truitt, and by their daughters Hannah Truitt of Springfield, VA and The Rev. Ann H. Truitt of Falls Church, VA and by nieces Nancy Stragand of Burke, VA, Barbara Saurborn of Hendersonville, NC, Peggy Seagrave of France, and Claire Liskow of Michigan. Born in Ayden, North Carolina, Janie and Jim Truitt moved to Arlington, Virginia in 1963. Janie was a piano teacher for 60 years, and had been a church pipe organist. She graduated from Meredith College in Raleigh, NC and did her graduate studies in pipe organ at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She loved travel, hiking, classical music, dogs, cooking, and books, and was devoted to her family and friends. In later life Janie became a member of Saint Michael's Episcopal Church in Arlington, VA and was active in many church activities. Janie was truly loved by countless people who noted her integrity, grace, sweetness, and love towards her fellow human beings. She will be dearly missed by so many people. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Saint Michael's Episcopal Church, 1132 North Ivanhoe Street, Arlington, Virginia 22205, The Rev. Leslie J. Hague officiating. All are invited by the Truitt family to a reception following the service and interment of ashes in the memorial garden. Donations may be made to the American Red Cross.
