

John D. Clayborne left this world to be with the Lord on Monday, May 9, 2016. He was born to William E. Clayborne and Carrie L. Monroe in McLean, VA on June 21, 1935. He moved to Arlington in 1938 and lived there until 1954. He joined the US Army and served in Berlin, Germany until 1956. Following his two years of service, he returned to Arlington, where he wed Virginia D. Rudgers and resided until 1973, when they moved to Falls Church. Together they had five children between 1961 and 1972. John was a 1961 graduate of American University and started his general contracting business, John D. Clayborne, Inc., in 1964. He is survived by his siblings Sue Cornwell and Edward Clayborne, and his half-brothers William Clayborne, Kenneth Roynestad, and Soren Roynestad. His sister Eva Selby predeceased him.
John is also survived by his children: Pamela Morgan, Sharon Clayborne, Allison Caple, John P. Clayborne, and 10 grandchildren; Austin, Trevor, Connor, Matthew, Ryan, Claire, Avery, Chloe, Evelyn and Autumn. He was predeceased by his daughter Jessica Clayborne.
John lived a life of dedication to his work and family. His “most important event in life are my children and grandchildren.” He made an impact on all who knew him and will be greatly missed. There will be a time of visitation from 5pm-7pm Friday May 13, at Murphy Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held Saturday May 14, at 11:00am also at Murphy Funeral Home 4510 Wilson Blvd. Arlington, VA, followed by interment at Columbia Gardens.
