Fr. Joe, what an example to live by. Easy going, human warmth, God's love preached and personified. He leaves his family proper, his lay family of friends, and his Missionhurst family, all better that we knew him. I always looked forward to seeing him on the altar or greeting him on the Missionhurst grounds, from my early days sledding the big hill through the decades of Mass there with my parents. I now realize he helped us memorialize another Joe, my father, at his final Mass. And how wonderful it was.  Hope they're enjoying a grand time together in heaven today. Smiles and warmth to Fr. Joe's family from ours.

Fr. Joe was a kind and warm soul. We met him at Missionhurst sometime around 2003/2004 and instantly knew he'd have a profound impact on our lives. He baptized both of our children (Will and Emmy) and we have loved seeing him serve the St. Ann's community over the years. Joe loved and adored his family, especially his nieces and nephews. We are deeply saddened by this loss, and will cherish our memories of him. We are comforted in the knowledge that he will continue to look over us from above. Rest in Forever Peace Fr. Joe!

The loss of Father Joe brings a loss of words, because we had become so close over the past 10 years since meeting at Knights of Columbus. Fr. Joe wrote my recommendation letter for Marymount University where I was able to obtain an academic scholarship to finish college full time. I graduated Marymount in May of 2013 and  I invited Fr. Joe to attend my with family, because to me he was family. Fr. Joe and I kept in touch and had regular dinners at Pulcinella's in Mclean,  and I would visit him often and bring coffee at Missionhurt. I moved away from the DC area in 2019, but Fr. Joe and I kept in regular contact on the phone. I last saw Fr. Joe in this past June at the rectory. In October Fr. Joe let me know what was going on. One of the last times we spoke, Fr. Joe said he was grateful and he said the outpouring of support was what helped him stay strong. Fr. Joe was so beloved and it brings me comfort to know he's somewhere special with his loved ones. Like everyone else I'm sad with tears, but like everyone else it was a real gift to have had him as a loan from God.
