Judith Frances Hogan

Judith Frances Hogan, 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on February 28, 2026. Judy was born on December 28, 1944, in Waterbury, Connecticut, to Gertrude and Almon Scovill. She was a dedicated nurse for over 40 years.

Judy was a caretaker by nature, always the first to offer a helping hand, a shoulder to lean on, or her prayers and wisdom. A few called her Mom, most called her Nana, which included anybody who walked through the doors of 1243.

Judy leaves behind her beloved children: Amy (Thomas) Cooney of Arlington, Rosemary (Jon) Moriarty of Charlottesville, and Michael Hogan of Arlington; six grandchildren: Jessica (Olivia) Hogan, Benjamin (Taylor) Foster, Jack, Tyler, Owen, and Molly Moriarty; three great grandchildren: Memphis, Dax, and Rhodes Foster; two brothers: William (Kathy) Scovill, and Thomas (Linda) Scovill; and many nieces and nephews whom she treated as her own.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, John Kevin Hogan, her parents, Gertrude and Almon Scovill, her sister-in-law, Mary Louise Petit, and her best friend Cheryl Murphy.

You could not hear Nana’s laugh and not feel compelled to join in. You could not be loved by Nana and ever feel unloved. She was, and always will be, our lighthouse: reminding us to find joy, to laugh and to know that we are loved, always. We are all better because we knew her.

Please join us in celebrating her life. On March 9th, visitation will be held from 4-7 at Murphy's Funeral Home in Arlington, Va. On March 10th, a mass will held at 10 am at St. Agnes Catholic Church followed by the burial at Columbia Garden's Cemetery.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Murphy Funeral Home, 4510 Wilson Boulevard, Arlington, VA 22203, US, on March 9, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

A Funeral Service will take place at External Service Location, 1910 N Randolph St, Arlington, VA 22207, US, on March 10, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.

A Committal Service will be held at External Service Location, 3411 Arlington Blvd, Arlington, VA 22201, US, on March 10, 2026, from 11:30 am to 12:00 pm.
