Nécrologie de Kristina "Kristi" René Schober
Kristina René Schober, known to her many friends and family as Kristi or just “Schober”, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 in Washington, DC. Her journey started on New Year’s Day 1976 in Houston, Texas. Over her 44 years, this journey took her to at least four continents and dozens of countries, where she embraced her love of travel and culture and made countless lasting friendships. From an early age Kristi’s spunky, playful nature was apparent, particularly when she locked her sister in the pots and pans cabinet. She grew up taking tap, ballet and jazz classes, and this energy followed her into adulthood, often finding an outlet through impromptu dance parties of all shapes and sizes. Kristi was an avid learner, obtaining a Bachelors in Psychology from Sam Houston State University, a Masters in Clinical Psychology from the University of Houston and a Masters of International Affairs, Economic & Political Development from Columbia University. Kristi thrived on helping others and devoted her life to this passion. She served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Africa, later worked in international economic development in the private sector, and then served as a Foreign Service Officer for USAID in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Tanzania, Afghanistan and Uzbekistan. Kristi appreciated good food and wine, and was at her happiest cooking and entertaining at her place, living by a true “more the merrier” spirit regardless of the capacity of her apartment! Her magnetism and hospitality were the glue between vastly different social networks, faiths and cultures. She leaves behind her Mom and Pop, Susie and Dave Donato, her sister Robin (her Beta) Schober and brother-in-law John Vian, her nephew Luka Vian, her Aunt Jordie and Uncle Bill Chalupnik and numerous family and friends, who are better off having experienced her dynamism and bright light. A celebration of life will be held on October 20, 2020 at Murphy Funeral Home in Arlington, Virginia and on October 25, 2020 at Heights Funeral Home in Houston, Texas. The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Kristi’s many friends who have shared touching memories of her and who have provided immeasurable support in this difficult time.
