

Lillian Helene Bennett Markoe of Alexandria, Virginia, previously of Wayzata, Minnesota died peacefully February 29, 2016. She was born April 4, 1933, and was raised on Mount Curve Avenue in Minneapolis. She attended Minneapolis West High School, the College of St Catherine, and the University of Minnesota graduating with a BA in English Literature. She was a devoted mother to her four children and dedicated wife to her husband of 57 years. She loved sunshine, swimming and gardening. All through her life she cherished her childhood memories of winters spent with family on Waikiki Beach, Hawaii, Busch Gardens, California and Palm Beach, Florida. The last twenty years she spent winters in small second home in Florida.
She was preceded in death by her husband James A. Markoe and daughter Helen Marie Markoe; her parents James G. Bennett and Lillian T. Bennett; brothers James G. Bennett, Jr. (Barbara) and Russell M. Bennett; sister Virginia Peters (Steven); brother in law George R. Long.
She is survived by three children: Elizabeth Markoe, James A. Markoe, Jr. (Sarah-Jane), and Charlotte Markoe; three granddaughters Julia Markoe, Anastacia Markoe, and Lucia Markoe; brother Thomas T. Bennett (Rita); sister Mary Long; and sister in law Elizabeth Bennett; along with many beloved cousins, nephews and nieces.
There will be a rosary beginning at 6 p.m. and the visitation will follow until 8 p.m., Sunday, March 6 at Murphy’s Funeral Home in Arlington, Virginia. A Funeral Mass will be: 11 a.m., Monday, March 7, 2016 at St. Agnes Church in Arlington, Virginia with burial at Calvary Cemetery in St. Paul at a later date.
