

Littleton Corbin MacDorman of Arlington, Virginia, passed peacefully on Wednesday, November 23, 2022. He was 91. For more than 66 years he was the beloved husband of Dorothy Janice MacDorman, who passed seven weeks before him.
Born December 1, 1930, in Chicago, Illinois, he was the son of Reverend George Edwin MacDorman and Hilda Villars Corbin, and the brother of Sabra Corbin Kittner. He is survived by his three children, John Corbin MacDorman, James Littleton MacDorman (Audrey), and Susan Claire Sedlazek, and three grandsons, Daniel Martin Sedlazek, Jack Henry MacDorman, and Sam Corbin MacDorman.
Mr. MacDorman – Mac, to his friends and family – was a generous husband, father and friend who enjoyed music, swimming, puzzles, a lively debate, and family genealogy. He was a ninth generation American whose ancestors first came to the Eastern Shores of Virginia in the 17th century and Maryland in the 18th century. He was a 1948 graduate of the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute and later graduated with civil engineering degrees from the University of Maryland and The Catholic University of America. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean War.
Mr. MacDorman was a transportation management and engineering consultant. He was an owner of MacDorman & Associates of McLean, VA; a principal with Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co of Washington, DC; a principal project manager with Traffic Research Corporation of Toronto, Canada; the director of analysis for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transportation Study; and an engineer/designer with the consulting firms of Buchart Engineering in York, PA and Whitman, Requardt & Associates in Baltimore, MD.
Mr. MacDorman was a registered Professional Engineer and a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Institute of Transportation Engineers, the National Society of Professional Engineers, and the American Society for Quality. He served as chair of the Transit Management and Performance Committee of the Transportation Research Board, National Academy of Sciences.
A memorial service will be held on December 10 at Murphy’s Funeral Home located at 4510 Wilson Blvd, Arlington, VA 22203. Family will be receiving guests at 9 am, with the service beginning at 10 AM. Burial will immediately follow at Columbia Gardens Cemetery located at 3411 Arlington Blvd, Arlington, VA 22201.
