

Peggy was born in Long Beach, California- the second daughter of a career naval officer. She spent her early years split between California and Washington, DC where she graduated from Georgetown Visitation and later Trinity Washington University. She also earned Master’s degrees from George Mason University (History) and Catholic University (Library Science).
Peggy Hamilton married James Mooney in June of 1954. James predeceased Peggy in 2001 after 47 years of happy and loving marriage. She was also pre-deceased by her Great-Granddaughter, Harper.
She is survived by her 7 children: Mike (Laurie), Pat, Cindy (Jeff), Jimmy, Erin, Tim (Courtney) and Missy (Mike), nineteen grandchildren: Lauren, Nicole, Jimmy, Kelly, Caitlin, Ashley, Patrick, Brendan, David, Erin, Sean, Jennifer, Shannon, Sarah, Miranda, Katey, Ryan, Matthew, and Connor and seven great-children: Matthew, MacKenzie, James, Connor, Kayden, James, Nicholas.
Upon graduating from college Peggy served in the Central Intelligence Agency. Her intelligence service was followed by dual careers as mother and librarian. Both prior to and after successfully rearing her seven children, Peggy had a career as a librarian; which began on the Baltimore Bookmobile many years before. Her professional life concluded with twenty years of service as a Children’s librarian in 5 branches of Fairfax County Library System.
For 52 years Peggy was a founding parishioner of Queen of Apostles Catholic Church.
Friends may call at the Murphy Funeral at 4510 Wilson Boulevard in Arlington at 7 p.m – 9: p.m. Sunday May 7. Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Monday May 8, 2017, internment at Quantico National Cemetery at 1 p.m. followed by a reception at Queen of Apostles Catholic Church from 3 pm to 5 pm.
