On Monday, February 9, 2015, beloved member of NOVA Catholic Community, Marie Dolores Pinho of Burke, Virginia, peacefully entered eternal life. Her parents, Beatriz and Antonio Pinho, preceded her in death. Marie was born on January 2, 1936 in New York and was first generation Portuguese in the US in her family. Marie was a much-cherished cousin to Amy, Margaret and Casey and lifelong friend of Frances Gates. She worked her career as a programmer at the National Institute of Health. After retirement, she became a certified tour guide and was an executive board member with the Guild of Washington Tourist Guides (GWTG) and the area’s representative to the World Federation of Tourist Guides Association from which she had just returned after spending time with them at their International Convention in Prague. The GWTG president indicated “She leaves us in grief for the loss of a friendly and lively colleague.”
Marie had a tremendous sense of humor and was a great storyteller, both tall and true, and could tell you more about Washington, D.C. than you could imagine and leave you amazed and laughing. She captured and kept your attention with her lively and joyful recountings.
Friends and family may visit from 4-5 at Murphy Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Quinn Conners at 5pm and a reception will follow from 6-7:30.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the NOVA Catholic Community or mail to 10000 Winnepeg Ct., Burke, VA 22015
OR to Association of Roman Catholic Women Priests or mail to ARCWP,
3041 Stuart Drive Macon, GA 31402
Internment will follow at the Calvary Cemetery in Queens New York on February 21, 2015, with Rev. Dan Gatti presiding.
She is missed already, as we would like to hear her tell of her passing with a twinkle in her eyes as she reached her own denouement.
