February 3, 1953 – November 20, 2018
This is the story of a long haired, pony-tail wearing, sarcastic and most loving man you could ever meet. A holder of all smiles and laughs that he could pass out at any moment, even while on his death bed. Known to me, as daddy and most compassionately known as his most prized title, granddaddy.
Daddy’s story started on Feb.3, 1953 when Aurelia and Felipe Sandoval welcomed the second “M” to the family. His older brother Myron finally got a playmate and life-long partner in crime soon followed Melvin, Marsha and Michelle. Try saying that 5 times fast, Myron, Marvin, Melvin, Marsha and Michelle. The family traveled the world while providing a service to the State Department. His mother entertained ambassadors and dignitaries while seamlessly raising and learning up her beautiful children.
Following his dad and brothers footsteps Sandy enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served on USS Towers DDG 9 during the Vietnam War. He was a proud veteran and believed in his country and her values.
While back in the states dad was on a bowling league with his parents at Bowl America in Falls Church, VA. Essentially the second home that I would soon come to know. Unbeknownst to him then, a foxy young lady by the name of Donna was on another team with her friends. Bowling was a constant backdrop throughout our lives. Six months later there was a new Fiancé in the family. May 12, 1979 Donna J Allen became a Sandoval and two families would become one. My mother’s parents adored Sandy and vice versa.
In March of 1980 Sandy and Donna created the amazing miracle, known as me, Lisa Fucci. And the three of us created an amazing family surrounded by amazing people. In 2009 Sandy gave away his daughter, to his future Son-in-Law Anthony Fucci with a stern and hard handshake covered with his cheek to cheek grin. It wasn’t until 2011 when Sandy truly melted that hard sarcastic and loving shell to a mushy grandfather. In August of 2011 Sandy fell in love once again with his first born Grandson, Gabriel Paul. It was an amazing scene to behold. And those who got to witness that will cherish forever. Then to top that off with a cherry, he got a granddaughter in 2015, a spitting image of his own daughter, Temperance Adaline. He relished and shined in his role of granddaddy.
Sandy loved bowling, hunting, or napping in the woods as some dear friends would call it. He was a talented man with his hands. He was a successful business owner and mastered the trade of Construction. He was a phenomenal friend to many and he considered his friends family. And to this day he was known as the treat-man on his block by all the local pups.
The world lost a truly wonderful man, husband, brother, granddaddy and dad on November 20, 2018. But we know without a doubt that he was welcomed into heaven by a fan club and his wonderful creator Jesus Christ. Those loved ones that cleared the path to heaven for him were his mother, Aurelia Sandoval, his father Felipe Sandoval, and Niece, Elizabeth Jane Jones (Gonzalez) and his best friend Arson. Those who are left to celebrate his life until we meet again are his beloved wife, Donna Sandoval and their daughter Lisa Fucci (Sandoval), Lisa’s husband, Anthony Fucci and their two children Gabriel Paul and Temperance Adaline. He is survived by his brothers Myron Sandoval, Melvin Sandoval, and sisters, Marsha Gonzalez (Sandoval) and Michelle Sandoval. His side kick Pitch will guard the door here on this side till he can love on daddy in heaven.
A celebration of life will be held February 2, 2019 at the Dale City VFW, to honor him and celebrate his birthday. We would love to have his friends and family join us so we can send him off in true fashion as the man we all knew and loved.
