Mary Elizabeth Gardner

On Sunday, August 21, 2016, Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Gardner passed away at Sunrise Assisted Living in Falls Church, Virginia after a brief illness. Betty was born in Dunmore, PA on May 20, 1927 to the late Cyril and Mary (Lowery) Murphy. She was predeceased by her husband, John Gardner. Betty is survived by her son Hugh (Susan) Gardner of Arlington, VA; grandchildren Sarah (Jacob) Farinholt of Bowie, MD; Michael (Allison) Gardner of Stafford, VA; & Matthew (Sarah) Gardner of Woodbridge, VA; and great-granddaughters Rachel Farinholt; Olivia Farinholt, & Elizabeth Gardner. A resident of Binghamton for many years, Betty moved to Virginia last year to be closer to her family. Betty was a registered nurse and ended her nursing career at United Health Service working with Dr. Syed Ahmed. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the hospice, Capital Caring, 950 Glebe Rd., Arlington, VA 22203. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Arlington, VA. Burial with a brief graveside service will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Johnson City, NY on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at 11:00.
