Mary Ellen Komorowski passed away at daybreak on July 15, 2016, after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. She died at her Goodwin House residence in Bailey’s Crossroads, Virginia surrounded by her family. Mary Ellen was married for 52 glorious years to Captain Raymond A. Komorowski, who passed in 2002. She was a beloved mother to Raymond, Jon, Mary Beth, Elaine and Clare; grandmother to Gabrielle, Bruce, Liliana, Marie, Jimi, Ashley and Jon Christopher; and great-grandmother to Victoria, Sophia and Henry. Born Mary Ellen Kotchi on May 18, 1926, in Chicago, she was devoted to her mother Eva Alice Gagnon, sister Charlotte and Aunt Em. Her father Charles J. Kotchi was an inventor. Mary Ellen was a graduate of Immaculata High School and the Chicago Art Institute. In the Navy tradition, she created many beautiful homes from Newport to Charleston all rooted in her Catholic faith and joie de vivre. She loved being a Navy wife and served for 20 years in the Naval Audit Service. She made life an adventure and is sorely missed by her family and friends. Arrangements are pending for a memorial service and internment at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made to St. Joseph’s Indian School in Chamberlain, South Dakota, a community long supported by Mary Ellen.
