Matthew was a great leader. He made me feel appreciated and respected. I enjoyed talking with him about organic policies and the FOIA. It is because of him that FOIA became my niche. 


Matthew was an extraordinary person. I always found his intelligence to be astounding, but it was his wit and wonderful sense of humor that made him such a pleasure to be around.  We have daughters of similar age, and he spoke often to me of his pride and love for his beautiful daughters. I am truly heartbroken to hear of his passing. My sincerest condolences to his family.

I started this memory a number of times and couldn’t finish it , but I decided to complete this today. My heart was broken when I heard the sad news about Mr. Matthew ( I had so much respect for him that I couldn’t just call him Matthew), so when he heard Mr. Matthew and the knock on his door, he knew it was me. He was the best supervisor and he cared about his staff. Mr. Matthew was always fun to talk to and he knew his music. I enjoyed our afternoon chats talking about work, music, and our families. He loved his wife Maki and daughters Nina and Jane. He also loved his dog Kirby. I loved the stories about Kirby and I shared mine about my pet babies too. Mr. Matthew was extremely smart and always willing to help with recalls and any other assignment that I needed advice on.  I stayed in touch with him even after I left USDA and he continued to be in good spirits, even though he was sick.  Mr. Matthew was a sweet and kind soul, gone too soon, but will always be remembered. My prayers go out to Maki, Nina, Jane, Kirby, and the entire Michael Family. May God bless you during this difficult time. 

So sorry to hear of Matthew's passing. It had been far too long since he and I spoke. We worked closely together when I was at USDA/OBPA. Matthew will always be a bright and shining example to all those who worked with, for and around him. He was someone that was quick to smile and offer a kind and thoughtful word. He will be missed by everyone he touched.  My prayers are with his family and friends.



Matthew will be greatly missed.  He was always willing to talk over the challenges of the day.  I admired Matthew's ability to be both professional and good-natured.  Our thoughts are with his family.

I was lucky enough to meet Matthew while we worked at FSIS. He was a great colleague and mentor. He always made me laugh, taught me a lot, and gave me confidence.

May my condolences bring you comfort and may everyone's prayers ease the pain of your loss.  Matthew was taken too soon.  I am truly saddened by his loss.   He was well liked and a pleasure to talk to and work with.   He touched the lives of many and will truly be missed.  The world would be a better place if there were more people like Matthew.

 

The news of the passing of Matthew was such a sad moment for me. Matthew was a great colleague, boss and friend. I will miss our conversations and jokes about music and the various artist. He has such a great sense of humor, a kind heart and a wonderful caring spirit. My thoughts and prayers are with the family during this time. The world has lost a great person. He touched the lives of many along his journey here on earth. Matthew will truly be missed...gone way too soon, but never forgotten.

I was absolutely devastated when I learned the news of Matthew Michael's passing. I worked with Matthew directly and he was the kindest, most humble man you would ever want to meet. My favorite memory of Matthew is that he was the fastest two fingered typist I had ever seen. He had a hilarious sense of humor and made coming to work fun.  He was a very honorable man. Maki, Nina, and Jane were the light of his life. He will be greatly missed. My deepest sympathies on your loss. 

My deepest condolences. I didn't work directly with Matthew, but would run into him into the halls at NOP.  He was always friendly and had the best sense of humor!

This was shocking and sad news when I learned about Matthew. He and I met in the early 90s when we both worked together. We then found a common love of music...we didn't like the same music, but we both loved and talked a lot about it. So much so that we joined a band together with Ethan Brown. Our late night jamming in Ethan's basement in Glen Echo used to bother Ethan's wife. It would have bothered me too if I hadn't been the cause of it. Then we joined another band with my friend Haik Naltchayan and his friend Adriaan Van Den Assem. The four of us played out many times, especially at the now-gone Grog & Tankard in Georgetown. We filled the place every time we played. I remember Matthew being highly intelligent and curious and that he loved his wife and daughters dearly. My heart goes out to Maki and Mark. My sincerest sympathy, Shant Markarian
