You are in our thoughts and our prayers.  So sorry we can't be with you.  I have good memories of Dick from all the "get togethers" we had with the Aunts and your Mom.  God was ready with big embrace when Dick arrived.  He greeted him with a

I met Dick almost immediately when I first started attending Clarendon UMC over 20 years ago. He was playing in the bell choir then and it was the first thing I joined. He was always friendly and helpful. He sometimes called on me to help usher at the last minute, because he knew I wouldn't turn him down. I watched how much he did behind the scenes at church. I would not call him a pillar of the church. Dick was a large part of the backbone of the church. I think people will discover more about what he did as time goes on and little things don't happen. When I heard he was gone, I just lost it. It's funny how much you don't realize you appreciate about someone until they aren't there anymore. I was so happy to join the Good News Class during the pandemic, and also have the privilege of singing with Amy in the choir. God bless his family as they work through this difficult life event. Love you, Amy!!

Dick will be greatly missed.  His kindness was only second to his welcoming smile.  He was so helpful, his tenure and knowledge of the club was something you could depend on, and he was always quick to respond to a request for information.  He ensured that everyone's birthday was acknowledged.  When I was able I tried to make the first June meeting so I could get my carnation.  I don't know who started that tradition, but Dick is the one I give credit to.  His life was well lived, his giving of himself, genuine, and I know he is receiving his reward in heaven.

Looking at this picture of Dick, that is exactly how I picture him -- a great, big, friendly, easy smile.   Dick was such a stalwart member of the Arlington Kiwanis Club.  He has been secretary as long as I can remember -- at least 20 years, anyway.  Dick always seemed to have an answer to any of our questions from institutional memory.  How did he keep it all organized, graciously field our phone calls, take photos of all the speakers (although we were never exactly sure where the pictures ended up), and even edit the club newsletter, taking notes on all the topics presented to us.  Just the most loyal, humble, reliable, gentleman in every sense of the word.  Dick, we love you and will miss you very, very much.  Rest in peace, dear friend.

Dick was always helping people and/or taking their photo.  I life well lived.  You took great care of him.  I am sorry that I will be out of town for the funeral.
