Richard "Rd" Dawson

We regretfully announce the passing of Richard “RD” Dawson (71) of Deerfield Beach, Florida, who passed away on April 9, 2022. Born in Washington, D.C. on February 25, 1951, Richard, a beloved son, was preceded in death by his parents, Blanche K. Dawson and Norman K. Dawson, Jr. (“Tom”). He is survived by his sister, Kathryn, his brother, Norman (“Joe”), as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Richard was known for his willingness to always help a friend, for being a pillar of the family, and for his love of sports. His tenure with American Airlines (“AA”) began in 1973 and exceeded 30 years of service and dedication. He played softball for many teams and as time went on, golf became his sport of choice. Richard will be forever loved and forever remembered by his family, friends, loved ones, and “fAAmily”.

The family will receive friends at the Murphy Funeral Home, 4510 Wilson Blvd. Arlington, VA on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, from 6pm to 8pm and on Thursday, April 21, 2022, from 10am to 11am. Services will be held at 11am on Thursday, April 21, 2022, also at Murphy Funeral Home. Interment immediately following at Columbia Gardens Cemetery, 3411 Arlington Blvd., Arlington, VA 22201.

In lieu of flowers, any memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s hospital or another charitable organization.
