“Ron” (Age 80)
On Friday, January 2, 2015, Ronald E. Grandon of Alexandria, VA peacefully passed from this life surrounded by his loving family and friends. Ron is the beloved father of three sons, Doug, Kent, and Dan, daughter Julie, and leaves behind seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Ron was born in Parsons Kansas, grew up there, and graduated from The University of Kansas where he found his love for basketball. His first job out of college was working for the Kansas City Star, where he held the same position previously held by Ernest Hemingway! Ron worked for the office of the Postmaster General, was a Washington lobbyist, Legislative and Executive Liaison, member of the National Press Club, a speechwriter for the Democratic Party, and worked over twenty years for Food Chemical News. Ron lived a full life, filled with adventure. Ron built two boats (one made of concrete just because he could) and sailed to the Azores. Ron lived and traveled in Egypt and around Europe. Ron was a true gentleman and a scholar. He was a sweet, kind, and generous man, who was always quick with a joke. He was an avid philanthropist to many different charities, and was always there to help a friend in need. Ron loved his friends and family more than anything on Earth. We love you and miss you Dad, Grampa, Great-Grandfather, and friend. Memorial services will be held at Murphy Funeral Home in Arlington, VA on Sunday, January 11 from 1:00 to 4:00.
