Ruth lived all of those years with an indomitable spirit, a positive attitude, and a sincere good will toward others that kept her going no matter what life threw at her. Orphaned at a young age during tough economic times, she attended the Parson’s School of Design in New York, and went on to use her intelligence and talent to become one of New York’s most successful display designers at a time when display design was so respected that windows were regularly reviewed in the New York Times. Her company, Ruth Soloway Designs, counted among its stable of clients the flagship stores of Macy’s, B. Altman, Saks 5th Avenue, Bonwit-Teller and other well known Manhattan retailers.
After marrying and raising her two sons, Ruth returned to display design in 1963 as chief designer for Herbert Rose, Inc., where she worked for over 20 years. A lover of people and new experiences, she traveled extensively throughout Europe, to China, and to the former Soviet Union. Her favorite stories from those trips were always about her interactions with local people, and she never tired of recounting how gracious and kind people were and how much she had learned by meeting them. Her openness and honesty made her many friends along the way.
Ruth is survived by her sons Bruce and Peter Kramer, and her grandchildren Kate and Andrew Kramer. She will be very much missed by everyone that knew her.
