Nécrologie de Telford Andrew Wamstad
On January 26, 2021, Telford “Ted” Wamstad passed away, just shy of his 102nd birthday, with his two daughters Janice and Andrea at his bedside. Ted was born on February 11, 1919, to Andrew T. and Matilda Schoger Wamstad and grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota. He had two younger brothers, Marvin (Bette) and David (Muriel) Wamstad. He was a graduate of the Breck Academy and St. Olaf College, where he majored in Chemistry. After college he served in the Army Air Corp as a communications officer in New Guinea during World War II and rose to the rank of Captain. On June 26, 1947, he married Doris Louise Wildung, also from St. Paul. They raised their two daughters in Wyckoff, New Jersey. He loved boating on Long Beach Island, NJ on the Whale Tail and sailing the British Virgin Islands on the Whale Tail II. In 1977, Doris passed away from cancer. Ted’s sales career at Mallinckrodt Chemical Works spanned three decades. He retired in 1982 as the National Account Manager for the eastern half of the USA. On November 7, 1981, he married Shirley Glock and moved to Florida, where they enjoyed selling real estate, playing golf, and taking RV trips with their dog, Pumpkin. After Shirley’s death in June 2017, Ted moved to Vinson Hall in McLean, Virginia to be near his daughters. In his final years, he developed a love of painting and became quite an artist and wrote his autobiography, “My First Hundred Years.” He was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in McLean, VA. Ted is survived by his two daughters, Janice Wamstad of Arlington, VA and Andrea Brown (Richard) of McLean, VA, his granddaughter, Katie Brown (Scott Goetzinger) of Baltimore, MD, his in-laws, George and Barbara Duryee of Stuart, FL, and many nieces and nephews and their families. He had a wonderful long life, great sense of humor, and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, funeral and interment with military honors at South Florida National Cemetery will be private.
